WHO WE ARE

We are a group of five Sciences Po students working on music consumption as a part of our Digital culture Project.

Experiment on music consumption on Spotify

Spotify is an app and a software dedicated to music streaming, that can be used with an internet connection (free version) or without internet connection (Premium version)

Spotify markets itself as an app that permits people to continuously discover more music thanks to an algorithm that makes music suggestions based on consumers’ tastes - How is music consumption affected by Spotify’s suggestion system? Does it actually fulfill the company’s purpose?

This website aims at answering that question by presenting our experiment.

We started from two different hypothesis :

Hypothesis:

  1. on an individual scale,  Spotify does increase the amount of songs streamed by the customer but not its variety.

  2. on the collective scale, Spotify tends to homogenize the supply of music among its customers.
